Anthroposophic mistletoe preparations can be used for all types of tumours. The five different medicaments differ primarily in terms of the manufacturing process.
Anthroposophical mistletoe preparations are non-prescription medicaments. Nevertheless, in Germany they are covered by the patient’s health insurance in every stage of the disease.
The selection of the host tree depends on the type of cancer and the constitution of the patient; the physician selects the host tree on an individual basis.

Anthroposophical preparations come in special serial packages in increasing dosages. The spectrum ranges from homoeopathic dilutions (for ex. D30 in the case of abnobaVISCUM) to high concentrations amounting to as much as 100 milligrams (extract from 100 milligrams of fresh mistletoe plant), for example in HELIXOR.
In part the proper dosage or the appropriate preparation is not only ascertained on the basis of reddening around the injection site but also on the basis of other bodily reactions, for example increase in body temperature, increase in the number of immune cells in the blood or an improved general condition.
Deciding which host tree the mistletoe extract should be derived from depends on the constitution of the patient and the type of cancer involved. During therapy one can observe that mistletoe from various host trees differs in terms of its effect. In the past years, such differences have been investigated intensely in Anthroposophical Medicine, the result being that apple tree mistletoe is frequently used for breast and abdominal cancer, while pine mistletoe is used for skin cancer and tumours in the nervous system.
The following anthroposophical mistletoe preparations are available (in alphabetical order):
